Should I update to Marshmallow?

Hi everyone,

I recently upgraded my phone to the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and I am loving it! I've only had it a few days now but I've been receiving various update notifications from T-Mobile. I figure these were probably released some time ago, and that the factory software on my phone is outdated. I'm been allowing all of the updates, except that I've been postponing the update for changing the OS from Lollipop to Marshmallow. I'm hoping to get some sound advice here before deciding to go through with it or not.

The reason for my hesitation is that on my last phone, which was a Samsung Galaxy S Blaze, I updated the software at one point from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich, and I regretted it. The update didn't offer any real benefits in my opinion, other than adding a restart feature. My phone's flashlight function was lost in the update and I ended up having to download a third party app for that. Worst of all, my phone was much slower, especially when texting or taking photos, and apps seemed to crash more frequently.

I have also read some comments online from various people about problems they had when updating the OS to Marshmallow. Considering my previous experience with an OS update and the experiences of others, I'm sure you can understand my concerns.

Are there any good reasons for updating to Marshmallow? Have most people had good experiences with this update? Are there any features I will lose? Is there an easy way to revert back to Lollipop if I am not satisfied? As stated, I love my Note 5 the way it is. I think I'd be perfectly fine with not updating, but there's another problem here. I've postponed the update a few times, and now the postpone option is deactivated. The only option available is to update. Also, I can't swipe this notification away to get rid of it. It's like they're trying to force it upon me. Is there any way to decline the update and make this notification disappear (but if I change my mind later, still be able to update)?

Thank you for reading, and I appreciate your help!

WELCOME TO ANDROID FORUMS! :thumbsupdroid:
Take the update:
I did w/my T-Mobile Note 5,no adverse effects whatsoever.
Better battery life & permission management on a per app basis is enough reason on its own to update.
Can you revert back? No,not without root, almost 100% sure on that, but, you won't want to..............

Thank you for the warm welcome, Kolio, and for your recommendations!

So now I have another question. In the software update notification, it says "Before OS 6.0.1 upgrading, please be sure to update the Samsung Gear to the latest version."

I'm not really sure what this is referring to, but when I bought my phone there was a promotional offer for a Samsung Gear VR. I have not received this item yet, but is this something I should wait to receive (and update) before updating my OS?

I really don't think that is necessary, sounds more like a way to get your attention/interested in Samsung Gear devices in general.
Shenanigans: I did no such thing when updating.
If that were really a crucial pre-requisite,the server shouldn't be allowed to push the update to your phone..........

Could be a service provider restriction.
Also, try a different SMS/MMS messaging app that has more options in the settings.
Textra is a good one to try..................
