Please hears me out before just responding, as i really need some solid advice.

Should i upgrade to 5.0 lollipop from 4.4.4 kitkat on my galaxy s5 g900v (just got ot yesterday)

I always used my samsung tab 4 so im used to 4.4.4 but i would be willing to upgrade if it gave any improvemets.

Things that are important to me are:
Works quickly (the speed at it works now is very good and i like it.

No space problems. This annoys me a lot when it says i still have space and i cant dwnload cos it says no space even if i delete stuff (had this problem often on my tablet)

It would be nice if stuff was very customizable without rooting bcause im already used to 4.4 from my tavlet, but i could get used to something new if i had to

Im just a bit skeptical because ive heard theat people are having problems when they upgraded with the s5.

Pls help me out here ☺

You say you have the 900V model?
if so, then you are on Verizon?

That being the case, if you intend to register it and start using it, you will not have a choice as to the OS being upgraded to the latest Lollipop version. Verizon does not allow us to have a choice to upgrade, just to delay it 3 times or so and then it does it anyway.

My S5 is on Lollipop, my wife's S5 is still on 4.4.4 but that is only because I have both WiFi and DATA turned off on it.
She only uses it for a phone and to play a game... so, that being said, it does not ever need to access DATA.

If your phone still has 4.4.4 on it, it too must have been protected from receiving the dreaded update to 5.x which I wish my phone had never received.

Oh, dear! You will be updated by Verizon, sooner or later I am afraid. There is no escape. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated! Just make sure that you have made a full backup of your phone beforehand... just in case. See #2.1 of S5 Lollipop Update Problems - Dummies Guide for how to backup.

You have a misunderstanding of Verizon's air charges for DATA.
VZW has never, ever, charged air time for the process of maintaining their radios (er, cellphones).

It does not matter if it takes 6 gB to update the phone, and you only have a 1 megaByte plan. ( being facetious here, okay? )
YOU WILL NOT BE CHARGED TO UPDATE THE PHONE.

Now, if you do NOT turn on DATA, the phone cannot be updated OTA.

If you refuse, then you can just wait until the software is available on Kies, AFIK all of their releases are available and have been since the day after the OTA release. I have downloaded every one of them for future use.... you just never know.

I know from past experience you cannot update OTA unless you have a strong Verizon signal. I live in a rural area and have had to drive 15 miles to find a cell tower strong enough to update a phone. I have used Kies once to update the firmware, but on a device that is NOT registered yet, you must be within reach of a Verizon tower to get it finished OTA.

UNLESS: there always is one, right? You can call 611 CS on a different phone and they can talk you through the whole entire process of activating a phone manually. That is an arduous task but I have done it at least 3 times in the last 25 years.

Update:
I have decided that i dont want lollipop for sure, and now the file is still downloaded but not installed. The install option comes up wvey now and then, but i just hit the back softkey and the window closes

Good Luck with that.
VZW will update it w/o your permission after you refuse for 3 times. I have the T-Shirt and a very long and loud mad thread on the subject when they forced 5.x onto my 4.4.4 phone..... that discussion involved me conferencing in CS techs and Samsung Engineers with me, and I got nowhere.

Once 5.x is on your phone, you can't go backwards.

So if i go and backup on kies 3, (i still gave kitkat rn) will i be able to reset amd revert back to kitkat with kies if it ever updates to 5.0?

It has been a long time since the 5.x happened to me.
IIRC, I did on one occassion use Kies to back up to 4.4.4 but the "success" did not last long, the next day, Verizon pushed thru another update to LolliFlop, er uh, Lollipop... depends on your point of reference.

then on the 2nd or 3rd upgrade to 5.x VZW came out with a new bootloader that makes it darn near impossible to change anything... I just gave up, and found some apps that force the colors to something I can see, and the notifications to something that I can live with.
