Shouldn't there be another place for "All things Root for D2G"

I am not a beginner and definitely not advanced. But from my understanding the D2 and D2G are different and the rooting and/or ROMs are different also. To me it's kinda confusing to have it all in one place with no real designation to say which ones which. I have a D2G and don't want to load a ROM that will take my global capabilities away or any other unforeseen lose of functions.

There should be alot of things for the droid 2 global, but we my friend pulled the short straw aparently, there are no roms, aside from fission, that has yet to update to the d2 and dx fission 2.5 yet, other than root and fission 2.4 there's not much place to go with this phone. oh well, upgrade is in november, I will not be purchasing another locked down moto phone again.

If you check droidforums.net you can find info on team get r done's ROMer tool, which allows you to use D2 ROMs on your D2G. However, this will lose you your sensors (auto rotate, brightness, etc). They're working on a full ROM with working sensors, but for now, fission is your only option. Even though it's not supported anymore, and probably won't ever see an update, I run fission 2.4.3 on my D2G and love it. Way faster and smoother than stock.

My intention is to find out:

Whether or not loading a D2 ROM on a D2G ROM will cause damage on your phone?

If the answer is yes I think that they should be separated because when I started reading the forum on D2, it took awhile for me to figure out that I couldn't use those ROMs on my D2G.

Or at least a warning in the D2 Root Forums that it isn't compatible with D2G.

Thanks for the info on Fission, maybe I'll try that.

If you flash a D2 ROM on a D2G without the ROMer tool from Team Get R Done, you get a very shiny, very pretty paperweight. However, there's no real harm done, you just have to flash the SBF to get back to stock.

This has been answered on pretty much every android forum that has a section for the Droid 2.

I've moved this thread to our Suggestion Box area so staff can get a full look at this.

Great that a cure is available if there's a problem - but maybe better if we can guide ahead of time to avoid a problem.

It might be easier if you Droid 2 cats would kindly list out the two sets separately for the moment, as you know your phone better than we do. We could then work with you to make that list separation, as well as the cure for those who mess up, into a prominent thread.

Just my suggestion, maybe there's a better way? Please let us know! :)

Well I understand the answer is probably alot of places, my point is that it should be a warning on this sticky:

http://androidforums.com/droid-2-al...ot-guide-updated-4-37pm-est-oct-1-2010-a.html

I just clicked on everyone of the links on the #1 post and I can't find where it even speaks of the difference between the two phones. My understanding on how most people use this thread is like a one stop shop, alot of people wouldn't go on to another thread to check out compatibility of D2 and D2G. They most likely will assume wrongly that the phone is the same.

All that needs to be done on that sticky is:
1) Write a warning that there are differences and a reference to where it's explained

or

2) Separate D2 All things root and D2G all things root

This suggestion is not for the advanced user who's been following D2 Threads since the phone debut, this is for the casual user who might've just bought the phone this year.
