Shuffle isn't random

It seems to me that the stock music app on the GNex, when in shuffle mode, isn't very random.

I listen to it at work, and I always seem to end up listening to the asme artists over and over again, when I know I have LOADS of different musicians on the phone.

Any ideas??

the random algorithm on computers are never actually random. I've personally seen this particular issue on many MP3 players as well. I dont think there's an actual fix for it except to use a different app that might randomize better.

Unless someone else knows something that I'm not aware of.

The stock music player sucks on just about every device. On my razr I use PowerAmp Pro. It is the best music player app I have tried. Lots of options, an equalizer, ability to edit music file names and artwork. Also has the best shuffle I have found. Also try searching your music files make sure you don't have duplicate files. I went through my music and happened to find quite a few duplicate files. This could also result in the same songs playing more often than they should.

It's very difficult to generate truly random sequences in computer programs. Most music players use any available numbers put through a series of calculations to generate a 'random' sequence. The available numbers often used are the current time, or the time you started listening to your music. If you're listening to music around the same time each day, the 'randomly' generated sequences will be very similar.

Try other apps which may have differing shuffly algorithms.

WinAmp, and Mixzing for instance have been good at shuffling in my case.

I also have the same problem and it bugs me a lot. I have also tried to look for solution but I think it is the problem with Android random algorithm, which I can't seem to find a way to change. On my old windows mobile phones, I didn't have this problem.
