Shut off the heat

I don't mean the whole thing, just the register that some idiot stuck up on the ceiling. It has a sort of lever that's supposed to slide, but it doesn't. I used wd40 on it, with no luck. How do I fix this thing? I don't want to shut off the rest, only that room. Once again, I'm "not allowed" to post a pic.

Normally a register is simply screwed on. You might consider taking it down to see why it refuses to function. If it is broken, it can be easily replaced with another found at your nearest hardware store. If you can't repair and lack a desire to replace.... cut a piece of cardboard the size of the vent, place it on top of your old register, and screw it back into place.

Once again, I'm "not allowed" to post a pic.
This is that known bug I posted about some months ago--which hasn't been fixed. :(

It's not that you're not allowed to post a pic, it's a forum bug that thinks the file is too big. As explained in that thread, the workaround is to simply resize the image down until it's small enough to be accepted. I post photos all the time. :)

If you need help, please post a thread in Android Lounge so others can see it, and benefit from its answers, too.

It is magnetic, but probably not enough. I stuck a magnetic sheet, the kind for use with printers, over it, and am trying to hold it in place with 5 fairly strong magnets. I might have used the cardboard trick but again some idiot, maybe a different fool, seems to have painted the thing "shut" around the edges. It's a shame because I had the perfect screwdriver...
