Sick of KIES

the beauty of android is there really isnt a true need to backup because everything can be backed up with a google service or dropbox, the only thing I can think of that would be missed in these types of backups is SMS history

SMSbackup+ backs up SMS to a gmail label

Also FolderSync from Play is great way to backup your SD card wirelessly to a computer on your network.

If you are looking to backup SMS, MMS, call logs you can use My Backup Pro.

Yes but an unnecessary cost plus still leaves it on your SDcard, which is vulnerable to data loss if you factory reset / get your phone stolen, so you still need to manually backup the sd card.

SMSbackup+ does all that (SMS, MMS, Call logs) to gmail for free.

Contacts, photo's, etc.

Are you not using google contacts? is there a reason why not?

thanks again SUroot, just downloaded smsbackup+ its an amazing little app, will come in handy for those emergency situations i need to restore

Using Handsent for SMS and contacts that came with phone. I do have a gmail account if that helps.

The contacts app that comes with the phone will store your contacts as one of the following:

google (gmail)
phone
sim

Probably depending how you imported them in the first place.

You can actually see from the contacts list where they are stored. It will have an icon to the right of the name. If its a "g" its a google contact and is stored in gmail. You can also confirm this in gmail on a computer. See if your phone contacts are there. If they are, you're all backed up that way anyway.

If its not a "g" icon and they're not in gmail, you can press menu from the contacts screen and "merge with google" and they will all become google contacts.

Whichever sms app you use is not relevant as all the sms backup apps backup the database which all sms apps will use anyway so you're good to go with one of the solutions mentioned here.

Yeah it really is good. I just set it up to upload every sms 3 minutes after received. Never lose an SMS again! :)
