Sick of winter and white "stuff"?

Here's a montage of pictures I took last year during a ride through the Catskill mountains in New York. We didn't have a real good year as far as fall foliage went and even with that I missed primetime by a day or two but still... it's not white. ;-)

Makes me homesick - not for the temperatures up there, just for the age I was when I was growing up in the area (a bit north of Poughkeepsie, though).

lol - the spring, summer, and falls are great. Winter? Not so much. Couple that with the geniuses running the state and we're trying to figure out where to re-locate down in your part of the country. Looking at SC/Georgia area but it's tough finding out where you want to move. Been here about 40 years but between taxes and 2nd amendment issues, we've just had it. As soon as da boss retires, we're outta here and headed your way... but I digress. ;)

You should recognize a lot of the areas then. Started out at Ashokan Reservoir then back and cut over to Ellenville and up the mountain overlooking the Valley where they handglide from. Sadly, there was too much wind that day and no one was flying. Then came back over 55 through Minnewaska.

Stitched in some photos of another ride which are the ones going toward the cliffs. Those pics were taken coming out of New Paltz and heading up to Minnewaska.

I went to school at the CIA so I'm pretty familiar with the area. Fall time there is absolutely gorgeous. We went apple picking a few times and it was so much fun. :)
I have family up near Kinderhook so we'd spend some time up there as well.
Thanks for sharing!

At least living down near the Catskill area puts you far enough from Erie and Ontario that you don't get continuous lake effect. Some areas here have already gotten 200+ inches of snow.

My 2 year program gave us a huge winter break for externship so I wasn't there in the winter. I do remember one harrowing day driving to school (we rented in Poughkeepsie) in a ton of snow. Rt 9 was a mess. But, I think CIA like a lot of other schools in upstate NY, never close. My brother went to Cornell and can definitely attest to that!

Grew up and spent my younger years in Conneaut Lake and Meadville jhawk, You don't have to tell me about lake effects... I know this was taken locally but can't recall exactly where and the pole doesn't look familiar. ;)
