Signal with virgin.

I bought this phone already aware that the signal i was going to get wasn't going to be excellent as I had looked at the coverage map before hand. I haven't actiavted it yet, i've just been walking around checking the bars occasionally to see what the singal i would get is like. It seems to vary from 0-2 bars depending on where I am at at the time. I rarely ever make calls and I can access wifi at my house So i was just wondering if one bar is enough to send and receive text messages? Oh and also, does the amount of bars i have relate to the broadband signal I am getting at the time from sprints towers?

To answer the question about the one bar and texting, yes. I have this problem where I work, completely metal building, and can only get a bar or less signal while inside. All my texts go through without any issues. All my texts will go through, and I can even make calls. If you completely lose signal, it lets you know. Then, obviously nothing will go through until it regains the signal.

Question 2....not entirely sure how it all ties together, but in short, yes. It gives you an idea about how weak the data signal will be. Again, inside that building, when my bars are down to one or none, I have issues with data coming in and going out(like FB, the browser, gmail, anything net related). It will usually work, although it gets really slow.

I have small areas, when i'm in the middle of nowhere that I have no bars, but still have enough of a signal to get texts and stuff. I think it's more hit or miss with the data though.

Yeah I have 1-2 bars at home, vs. full service at work. (which is ok 'cause I'm at work more than home lol)
Tethering at work is a breeze...I was surprised at it's speed! That data is super fast when it has all it's bars.
With 1-2 it's still doable, just a lil slow. :)

i have about 3-5 bars wherever i go, but it doesnt seem to interfere with the service as much as one would think

I get 1 bar inside at work and text msgs sent and received just fine.

Most of the time voice is just fine for me on one bar also.

But sometimes with one bar data is a little sketchy for me. But I mainly connect to Wifi at work and home for data anyways.

I have on average 2-3 bars, at home and at school. Enough to text with and i connect to my school's wifi (I know the password :P)

I noticed that when you activate the phone, the service gets juiced up. I had 1 -2 bars all over, then I activated and got 5 bars in the same places, so that may be it.
