Silence notifications when certain apps are in use

Hello folks,

I would like to silence all notifications (except ringer) when certain apps are in use. Is there any way to achieve it. May be Tasker is one, but I don't know much about it, neither do I have time at this moment to learn it.

What other option do I have?

This is for Galaxy S4, Play Edition. I don't want to silence notification all the time, so no global silence through the settings, but only when certain apps are in use, like Skype or something, which I have to use randomly.

Many thanks in advance.

(P.S. - I checked few old threads but they didn't answer the question. Apologies if I missed any where it is answered. Please direct me.)

Yes, Tasker can do this:

* It can change your settings when specified apps are running
* It can set different volume levels (ringer, notifications, alarm, system) separately

So set the condition to be when any app from a list is active, the task to silence those volume settings you want silent, and an exit task to re-enable those sound settings when you leave the app. By Tasker standards it's pretty straightforward.

I have a manual solution for you if you are interested. I currently use Volume Widget by Leep Studios: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.leepstudios.VolumeWidget

This widget allows you to set different sound profile settings and activate them by tapping on a widget. I have a profile where only the alarm and ringer sounds are on while notifications are off. I manually activate this before going to sleep and activate my normal profile (with notification sounds back on) when I wake up.

I am offering this alternate solution as it is likely a little simpler to set up than Tasker, but it requires manual intervention whenever you want to change. I find Volume widget to be extremely useful and may be a viable alternative for you.
