Help Silence?

Ok, did a quick search I didn't find it, how do I do a quick silence all on my android (by the way SOOO much better than my old sprint phone) but my old sprint phone did have a quick way to place the phone on silence without accessing 3 differnt menus is there anyway or any application that will with the press of a button put the phone on silence.

Now I was doing something to the above when I wasn't using a pattern lock but since I like to keep my phone locked when I press menu or the red lock button it only locks the phone.

been reading you guys for weeks now while supposed to be working so I know I'll get a answer and thanks for all the info

Thanks, turns out wasn't holding it long enough..yes I'll chalk this up to a ID-10-T error on my part. thanks for the help and answer though
