silent alarm?!

This is an odd issue. When I try to create an alarm using Google voice, the alarm is completely silent.
I can successfully create an alarm manually and it goes off loud and clear, even when in silent/vibrate mode which I use at work. A colleague suggested that I could simplify the process by using Google voice and saying something like: " Set alarm for 10 minutes from now".
This method appears to work. Google voice confirms "Setting alarm". A notification appears. I can go into the clock settings and verify that everything associated with the related alarm is normal; melody, volume, etc. But when the designated time arrives the display comes on and the alarm screen appears but there is no sound and no vibration.
Has anyone else encountered this odd bug?
 
I don't have Google Voice on my Samsung Galaxy S2 but Samsung Voice Command set up the alarm with sound with no problem. Are you sure Google Voice can do what you want? When I read about it in the play store it looked like it was for making International calls over some Google sponsored phone number so you save the charges or something. It didn't say anything about running apps.
 
Thank you for your reply. Perhaps I'm not using the right terminology. I'm referring to the microphone icon in the Google search widget on the main desktop of your Galaxy phone. In addition to performing voice searches it or texts, or phone calls it carries out commands.
There is no doubt it's functioning. The instructions are repeated. An alarm is created and the notification appears.
As a point of comparison I tried performing the same function with Samsung Voice command. (As an aside, the interface for Google Voice is much better than Samsung's). It also created an alarm, but interestingly it was silent.
No sound, no vibration.

So a strange situation no doubt. An alarm created manually functions normally. An alarm created by Voice command, no matter which software apparently, is absolutely silent.
 
Oh, okay. That didn't work for me either. Instead of setting up an alarm Google Search gave me search results regarding setting alarms. You might want to try a third party app. Assistant gets good ratings and it's free from the play store.
 
I do appreciate your interest. Well, I carried out the experiment you recommended with the same result. The alarm created by Assistant was silent as well. So that confirms the hypothesis but unfortunately does not point to a solution; For some reason alarms created manually function normally, those by voice command through software are completely silent.

And for those curious about my opinion, Assistant seems to work well but I wouldn't recommend it. The interface is too dorky.
 
Copy on the dorky. :) Are you running a custom ROM by any chance. Depending on the ROM creators interest and attention to detail some apps don't work as well or at all when using custom ROMs whereas they work fine with an official ROM from the manufacturer.
 
I got it to work on my S2. I did a long press on the Google Search microphone icon then told it to set an alarm for two minutes from now. It confirmed and two minutes later the alarm went of with sound included. I don't know what to tell you cvoptimus; it woriks on mine running the official t-mobile Jellybean ROM.
 
No custom ROM, I recently updated to Jelly Bean, Android OS 4.1.2, if you think that means anything.

And Google Voice is definitely designed to carry out simple commands:

Maybe a factory reset might fix it but I'm not sure I'm willing to spend the time needed to recreate all the customizations I've performed and to re-install all my apps.
 
You could try clearing the cache on Goggle search. Go to your home screen then tap the settings button. Go to application manager, then all programs and find Google Search. from the options presented when you tap on Google Search clear the cache. This won't affect your setup at all and it could be a solution to the problem.

It wouldn't hurt to restart your phone after doing this as well. Sometimes a restart can fix a problem when nothing else does. Power off and turning it back on performs the same function as Restart but with Restart you don't have to push the power button again.
