Sim Card Question

Ok so yesterday I purchased a used Samsung Galaxy S4 from a seller on craigslist to replace my current S3. The S4 did not have a sim card in it though it was originally with Metro. With the seller by my side we visited a local Metro dealer and they said that the phone ESN was fine/valid. I pulled the (orange) Sim card from my S3 and tried putting it in the S4 but get a Pin code unlock screen for the Sim card. Is it expected to see the unlock screen? or should I be able to activate it with my sim and something is wrong? I just want to know before I go out of my way to buy another one.

Did you buy the S3 before Metro went GSM or after?

Cause before I know some Metro CDMA phones had that orange sim which did nothing really.

Anyway, always use sites like swappa to determine where a phone is from simply using the IMEI. Buy a Metro sim and that S4 should work (unless its from ATT or Sprint in which case you'd have to unlock it if it's ATT and if it's sprint get your money back because that phone will not work with Metro even if you flash it over to Metro.. Sprint is really bad with Metro

when turning the phone on it shows the Metro PCS Logo. The guy said it was originally from Metro. As for the S3 im not sure if it was purchased prior to the change. it was a gift from my aunt. Im going to check on swappa now, just to be sure.

I double-checked with Swappa and I recevied a "Clear (IMEI Blacklist)
Device appears to be activation ready." status after the check so thats a good sign. Thanks for all the help guys.
