Why does my ZTE Engage have a spot for a SIM card? I tried putting a tmobile SIM in it and it doesn't work.

It is for a micro sim card. The reason why T-Mobile doesn't work is because it is a GSM network and since Cricket piggybacks on Verizon it is CDMA.
Making these two incompatible.
