Sim cards

You will have all noticed that sim cards are getting smaller and smaller.
Well not anymore according to customer service on EE.

Apparently soon there will be no transferable sim card and the identity will be built into the phone.
The next pixel phone will have no sim card they claim.

EE might be confused, the Pixel 2 still has a SIM slot for your carriers SIM card.

It also has a built in eSIM that currently only works on Project Fi in the US, might also work on some other carriers in different countries.

Called project fi about weather sim on my pixel xl was reuseable on new one and was told if I wanted to I could , but it's not needed because it comes with Esim built in.

Well the active chip part of a SIM hasn't gotten any smaller, it's the amount of surrounding plastic has been drastically reduced. Back in the '90s SIMs were originally credit-card sized.

I don't think that's going to happen, that sounds like the old fashioned(ETACS/AMPS or CDMA) way of doing things, where you would have to register the phone's ESN with your desired carrier.

The whole idea of a SIM with an unlocked phone, is that you just put whatever carrier's SIM in you like, and you're in business. That's what I do when I travel internationally. Of course EE supply locked phones usually, where you can't just change to another carrier's SIM.
