SIM issues with S8

_Xaero_

Lurker
Recently upgraded to an S8 through my contract with Vodafone and went through the steps to get my old sim transferred to my new nano-sim.

Received an email saying the swap was done and I should be good to go, yet every time I tap my mobile data, it tells me to "Insert SIM card to access network services" and when I click on the cog wheel and go to connections, there is no "mobile network" option either.

I've reset the network settings, rebooted the device after taking the sim out (etc), done a factory reset from the phone and tried a factory reset from the boot loader, but nothing has worked.

Wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

I don't have that issue nor your kind of phone..but it sounds like the phone is locked..in other words, you have to unlock it in order to being able to transfer carriers..

I would check to see if the APN settings are correct in settings under mobile networks

The apn is directly related to the SIM..

True... but I don't see how the phone needs to be unlocked either if he got it through Vodaphone which was already his current provider.

Try this:
Go to Settings
Navigate to Wireless and network
Tap Mobile Networks
Press the home button for 2 seconds, while holding the home button, press the power button together for 15 seconds
Your Galaxy Phone will Blink several times and for some cases, you will see a black screen with line 400, no worries.
Your phone will reboot by its self, if for some reason, it doesn’t reboot, hold the buttons with each other again

Dear..yes it has to do everything to do with it..first, the op didn't say but it's intrinsically that the phone is unlocked..besides, would've work right there on the spot..is just the behavior of an unlock one..doesn't mean he did it him self, maybe the company already did it first hand..

To the OP: So yes, the SIM slot must be still locked..you see, the problem with the 99% of the unlock procedures is that leaves the phone with a very weak capability to keep an steady apn(if it finds one at all) that majority of the times the people have to continuslly reboot their phones and some times even three or four different occasions a day

but don't panic, you may fix it, try to find a good unlocking system or method..

I found mine and made my experience with my phone worthwhile..

I hope that helps.

Why would Vodaphone sell an unlocked phone for Vodaphone? I'm not following... And if you're saying it's not unlocked and needs to be, he could return it to Vodaphone if it doesn't work on their service. You seem to believe you're 100% correct and sure that you know what you're talking about, so I'll leave you to it.

Not sure if you realize, OP said he upgraded to the S8 through his carrier. Meaning they sold him the phone. So in essence, he went from an older model phone on Vodaphone, to the S8 also provided from Vodaphone. So if there is any carrier lock, they would have to remedy the situation... or did i misunderstand?

The phone itself is unlocked since it was from sent to me from a Vodafone store, and because i'm a pay monthly customer the phone they send would be automatically unlocked since it was an upgrade, etc. I've the put the nano-sim into a different unlocked phone and it still doesn't pick it up - so I imagine the sim I have is faulty

edit: unable to make calls or texts, etc, throws up an error like "not registered on network"

You should be able to pop in to a Vodafone shop and they'll give you a new SIM on the spot. The local one has always been pretty good with my wife whenever she has small issues like this.
