Lurker
I have a couple of questions which to you techsavvy folk might seem a little stupid.
I have had a smartphone for a couple of years and only used it for, texting and making calls plus the odd photo.

I now have a galaxy S111

I have it on a sim only contract (always been PAYG) on 3. Was conned by the salesman who swore to me that I would get a good signal where I am living. He was a liar! Lousy signal!

Anyway to the questions.

I am going abroad soon and need to take my phone.

Would it be better to use an old phone and just PAYG?

If I get a phone unlocked does that mean I can put in ANY simcard?

On my S111 please assure me that when I am using Wi-Fi at home I am not racking up my internet 'ration' on my contract?

Is mobile data the internet?

Why can't I download photos that other folk send me?

Thank you for your patience if you read to the end of this.

Using your phone abroad is expensive. If you're wanting to be able to make local calls, getting a local sim is your cheapest option.

As far as I understand it, yes, unlocking your phone allows you to use a SIM card from another carrier.

You can make sure you're not using data by turning mobile data off in your settings. When you're on Wi-Fi, you should not be using mobile data.

When you're using the internet and not connected to Wi-Fi, you will be using mobile data. This could be through an application on your phone or the internet browser on your phone.

In the text message, tap and hold the picture (do not open the picture), then a menu will pop up allowing you do save the picture.

Hope that helps.

The phone must be a GSM phone and you need to verify the frequency of your phone and if it is compatible with the cell networks in the country you are going to.

You may find that your old phone may be compatible so double check both phones.
