since os upgrades Photos on iMac won't import pics from my s6

I take a lot of pictures with my s6 and periodically dump them on my iMac to free up space. I recently upgraded my s6 to marshmallow, and am loving all the new features, especially with the camera. I then upgraded my iMac to El Capitan, and Photos (formally iPhoto) recognizes my phone but can't seem to find my photos. I connect with a USB (the fast charge one that came with my phone, I've tried a reg. one as well), swipe down and click Transferring Images, Photos pops up, recognizes my phone, and then says "no photos," and I have over 10K of them! I can't get them to upload through image capture, either. I've tried to get help in various Apple forums but they said it was a phone problem so I thought I'd try here. The only answers I can seem to find have to do with clicking Transferring Images upon connection, and I've done that, but still can't import my photos. Please help!

I don't use a Mac, so can't really help. On a PC, when I connect using a USB cable, I have to pull down the notification bar on the phone, and select the option to allow transfer (MTP). If I don't do that, the file explorer on PC can't access files on my phone.

One other option - set up Google Photos to auto-backup to the cloud - select "High quality" to get unlimited free storage on Google Photos. The advantage with this is that it will auto-backup any photo you take automatically, and you don't have to worry about your photos not getting backed up. You can set it up to backup only on WiFi (or over Wifi/mobile data). Just something to consider

Have you got Android File Transfer loaded on the Mac and is it correctly recognizing the phone?

However I've never had much luck with it running on El Capitan OS X and connecting to Samsung devices. I usually transfer photos and other content wirelessly, using AirDroid or FTP and just a browser on the Mac
