Single Uncropped Wallpaper for Single Screen, Appless

Hey guys, I'm taking a mostly minimalist approach with my phone, an LG Optimus V. I'm running LauncherPro and have cut out all of the other screens. In other words, there is no sliding or swiping to a new set of icons or widgets, and thus no slight shift in the wallpaper from doing so.

I still would like to personalize with a static wallpaper. I'd like to do this without a Wallpaper App constantly running in the background; that seems counterproductive.

Currently, when I set a wallpaper, I am required to crop a photo that is wider than it is long. I'm not sure how many screens the photo is dimensioned for by default, but it is definitely more than one since the main screen (which is longer than it is wide) crops the excess width.

I can figure out an image editing program if LauncherPro has no easier way to do this. I was hoping I just missed some setting for wallpapers to be sized equal to the current number of screens, or something along those lines. If not, can I simply crop an image to the size of one screen and add whitespace/blackspace on both sides of the image so it technically fits all screens?

If so, how many screens should I account for? 3? 5? 7?
What dimensions should the isolated, unpadded wallpaper image be?
The screen specs are: 3.2 in. and 320x480 res.
And what should the dimensions be for the total wallpaper, including the whitespace?
Is it better to have higher dimensions (but equivalent ratio),
or to deres to the exact pixel count when making a wallpaper.

Any input on this would be great; I'm a bit OCD, and the lack of control of what is shown in my wallpaper exactly is killing me.

Making a normal sized wallpaper with filler on either side should work. But I've made a few wallpapers for people who have that phone and run into some sizing problems. So, I'm not quite sure it will work this easily.

That said, here's a template that should help. It's the size of a normal wallpaper for your phone (640x480) with a single screen (320x480) marked off (in red).

Hope this helps and good luck.

Thanks bud. : j

Never used a template before, but I think I get it.
It's for use in a photo editor, and I can:

1. Mark the template as an unprinted layer,
2. Put a photo over the template on a separate layer,
3. Crop and center to the red rectangle, and then
4. Fill to the outer edges from with a solid black?

Why the need for the grid/circle?
(I feel like they're more important than what I'm giving credit for.)
Anything else to it?
(What were the problems you ran into previously?)

If I've got it all right, then thanks again; entirely appreciated. : j

I'm not sure which editor you're using, but yes, it sounds like that should work perfectly.

The reason for the grid and centering circle is that I made it for people to use for resizing wallpapers. With those They can see clearly where things will be on the screen. It also helps me making in wallpapers as I can get one or more screenshots from someone and line them up properly.

As for what issues in sizing them, I had a couple of people say that although that wallpaper should be the right size, their phone still makes them crop it. I have know idea why this would be - I never heard that problem from others with different phones with the same resolution. So as I said, It should work, but I'm not sure it will. If it does come up, a wallpaper app such as "Wallpaper set and save" or "Wallpaper wizardrii" may help.

Again, good luck, and you're welcome.
