Size / type of thumb drive for S8

I know thumb drives and micro sd cards are not formatted the same, not real familiar with thumb drives hardly at all. Just wanted to know the largest GB thumb drive, type and brand that would go into / best for my phone. Do I need to spend alot of $ ?

You're referring to USB thumb drives, connected by USB-OTG?
They're formatted the same. but USB drives have no size limits really, other than what can be manufactured.

I've connected and used 4TB USB hard drives on my Huawei Mate 10 phone no problems,.

Only a micro SD card can go into the phone for storage, a USB thumb drive would be external storage.

Price depends on how much storage you want, 64GB thumb drives can be found for under $10. 256GB under $40.
