Skipr.tv - I hope it's more than vaporware

Accept no imitations!
I recently came across this Android TV set top box that seems to do it all:

http://skipr.tv/

Not only is it 4k UHD compatible; not only is it customizable for each person in the house with individual channel guides, apps, etc; not only does it have an HDMI pass-through (which is vital to me)... it actually SKIPS commercial breaks or covers them with something else! Just go to the link, read up, and hope with me that this actually comes to market.

Don't know about you, but I am VERY excited about this piece of gear and happily signed up for beta updates! :D

Can't see it being supported by the broadcasters though, or them being too happy about it, a device primarily intended to allow you to skip ads. Presumably it works by buffering the content?

Apparently it uses algorithms and guide data to sense or know when a particular network is going to commercial break... and then automatically switches modes for the duration of the break. When the program is scheduled to resume, Skipr goes back to the content. Pretty clever, really. The commercials are playing, but Skipr effectively "changes the channel" to something you prefer like music, news or a screen saver. It would be not much different than broadcasters being mad at us for going to the bathroom during commercials or channel surfing instead of watching the ads.
