Skype and battery life

I'm a light user of my phone and am not getting near the battery life as expected. The only current problem could be Skype mobile. I'm signed in 24/7 and IM on there for large portions of time. It doesn't appear higher than 2 or 3% on my battery usage though. Just looking for some input. I can post stats later.

Also, any word when Skype is updating so we can video chat from the RM?

I'm able to video chat with mine on Skype. I also notice no difference in battery life signed in or not. Since you mentioned IM, are you taking into consideration that while skyping your screen is on? That could be the cause of your battery drain.

I'm not sure what to do about the video chat. I can't get it to go through... Is anyone else having problems with the Skype app?

As for the battery, I'm going to post my stats. They are good and the battery is running great, but it just seems like it should be even better.

At 18hrs, I have 19% remaining
Android OS 38%
Display 25% (2hrs, 22mins)
Wi-Fi 9%
Phone idle 7%
Cell standby 6%
Browser 6%
Plume 5%
Skype 3%
Handcent SMS 2%

The display is using a large portion of your battery try turning down your brightness. I havent had any trouble video chatting on my Razr Maxx. What happens when you try to video call someone?

Ok. Well I make it through a day without any problems. I might turn down the brightness later, but for now, I need it on auto so it adjusts because I am in and out all day long.

I get their skype picture on my screen just like an audio call. If I try to switch on the front camera, it goes black, and then goes back to just showing their picture.

What mode of transport are you using when you try to video chat? If you do not have enough bandwidth on upload then you won't be able to send your side of the video. I live in a 3g area and sometimes I have the same result as you describe. At work is solid 4g and the video works fine.

I've only tried it with 3G - a very strong 3G signal though. I don't have 4G in this area, but I'm going to give it a try on wi-fi tomorrow hopefully.

I just video chatted with my son in Switzerland yesterday and it worked fine. He was on wifi and i was on 4g. I have no idea why its not working for you.
