Help Slight crack in glass

Well-Known Member
I just got my Droid Turbo 2, moving up from Droid Maxx, a few weeks ago. I thought the glass was unbreakable. But today I dropped it and I feel like I see a slight crack.

Almost correct.

Actually the shatterproof screen has a replaceable shield in front of it that is softer than Gorilla Glass. Many Verizon employees don't know this. There are replacements available le from Motorola and Verizon. I bought one from each source. Cheaper from Verizon. I have never needed to use one.

The shield pops out and a replacement can take it's place.

FWIW ... the Verizon logo at the bottom of the screen is actually etched into the replaceable screen from Verizon.

If the scratch is not on the shield ... take it back to Verizon for a replacement.

Anyone thinking that shatterproof actually means that it is unbreakable ... needs to quit drinking the koolaid... lol

The term has never meant unbreakable even if the marketing folks want us to think that when we read it... only that it is resistant to shattering much like the front glass in our cars windshields are resistant to it.

BTW... bulletproof vests... are also not, just in case you didn't know that either :D

It really means that if it breaks (first two years?) that it will be replaced at no cost to you. This does not include the shield that is front of it that is designed to be replaced by the user.

Based on some posts I've seen on Lenovo's forums, it's not clear that they cover damage, either. For example they don't cover negligent handling, which seems to mean that if it breaks, they don't cover it under warranty. That's despite the TV ads with Ashton Kutcher. The Turbo warranty was better.

Yes the device is not clear to a lot of people who are selling it and supporting it.

Most Verizon people don't know about the replaceable front shield and sell people add-on screen protectors.

The warranty for shattered screen needs some vacuous approval process. It is possible that they are "adjusting" what it means. When it was originally released ... if the screen cracked in the (two?) years it was replaced. You need to talk to Verizon about any current "adjustment" in the warranty.

Their intent was to replace it if the screen no longer operated. If it is cracked and totally operational ... who knows?

I noticed a couple weeks ago 2 small cracks on the right side of the screen, by the power button. I will try to take a pic of it with another phone and post here. I wonder if that's under warranty or even worth hassling over. Right now, they're small enough that they don't show up on the lit part of the screen. But I'm concerned it may expand over time. If it does, I'll go to VW and see what they say.

Are you sure it was the screen and not the replacement lens? Replacements are in packages that look like ...

Thanks for the comments. I showed my phone to the IFixItStore (I was there to have him air dust out of my laptop) and he recommended I contact Motorola.
