SlimPort does not work with this phone

I just discovered few days ago (when I plugged USB-to-HDMI adapter into my G6) that SlimPort does not work with LG G6. So, is wired HDMI output completely out of luck?

Pop up message gives me option for screen sharing and when I tap it G6 finds my two Vizio SmartCast TVs. But the question is how can I play MP4 video files from my phone to my HDTV?

gtrusted.com did an article about LG removing SlimPort from the G6 in favor of Miracast and Chromecast support. Neither of these options appear to address playing content already on your phone.

However MX Player my favorite app for watching content you have ripped from your DVD collection or downloaded has come up with a solution for using Chromecast to display your on-phone content.

I have MX player. I will have to do some reading about those "casts".
