My Moto G5+ with android 8.1 installed has recently taken forever to download and install updates for the installed apps. I have tried deleting a bunch of apps, disabling autoupdate and updating one app at a time. I still have the problem. Any suggestions? I currently have 24 apps needing updates.

Are you on Wi-Fi when you're doing this? If so, do you have other devices on the same network? How do they behave?
My first instinct is to simply reboot the router and modem. Try that and report back.
Of course, if you're NOT using Wi-Fi, then the issue may be with your phone's carrier.
