Help Sluggish Performance/Poor Battery

I just got an HTC Magic from Rogers a few days ago and I'm noticing that it's running REALLY slow. The lag is unreal when I text and the battery dies very quickly. I have TWO widgets open (calendar and Google search) and the transition from sliding screens is sluggish.

I rooted my phone a few days ago. Could this be the problem? Has anyone else experienced this? I heard that Sense UI is supposed to cause problems, but I haven't heard anything regarding Cupcake.

Is there a way to do a factory reset after rooting?

There are many many factors that will effect your battery, cpu power.
If it is such slugish, my first guess is something is really running hard on your device when you doing something normal. Which in the end will consume battery faster than normal.

Turn off any unused widget, radio frequency, brightness etc...

Since you just got it, you should play around and see what is good/bad in it. That's the beauty of open os, if you know what you doing.

Also your usage, style will effect the battery as well.
