Help Smart Actions - Am I Doing Something Wrong?

Raines30

Newbie
I want to be able to turn off cell data and enable wifi when I am at home. When I leave I would like Wi-Fi to turn off and enable cell data. I have two smart actions set up and when I leave cell data turns on but it does not turn off Wi-Fi. Also, if there is a way to make it work will it also turn Wi-Fi back on when I get home? Below are my settings. Am I doing something wrong?

Default
trigger - timeframe 24/7
action - wi-fi off, gps off, bluetooth off

Home
trigger - location
action - cell data disable

I have also tried this with the Home action having the wi-fi connection as the trigger.

You cannot have wi-fi off and use location based smart actions. Wi-fi has to be enabled for location based smart actions.

I'm guessing the wi-fi trigger wasn't working because you had wi-fi disabled.

Ok, so then the home action triggered by location will not act if wi-fi is off. I can understand that but the default action still did not turn off wi-fi when I left home.

When I used the wi-fi trigger for the home action it was enabled. The default action did not turn off wi-fi when I left home either.

i have a very similar setup and i dont think theres a way to do what we want it to do... when we leave the house, and the wifi connection to my home network breaks, i woul dlike the phone to shut off its wifi radio (and bluetooth) but smartactions won't do either. meh.

Exactly what I would like to happen. My default action definitely kicks in when I leave the house and I lose my wi-fi connection but for some reason it doesn't shut off wi-fi. I don't need the sophistication of some of the profile apps out there so I was hoping to use smart actions and avoid using one of those apps. This is basically all I want it to do. I don't care if I have to turn on wi-fi myself once I get back home to kick that action back on, just wish I could get wi-fi to turn off when I leave.

My SA setup isnt the best for me yet, still a work in progress.

For me, I use public transportation to and from work....til I get license situation fixed. I have it setup that when I plug in my earphones, Wifi turns off.

May I just say that I'll be happier too when Android better supports smart actions location capabilities, but until then, I'll be using auto wifi toggle from the market. It's simple and it works.

The wifi-location trigger is nearly a deal breaker on smart actions for me. It makes no sense on a system that has 3 potential data locating services to be tired to one of them so directly. The phone should bee able to meet most location triggers requirements using the cell towers.

There's an app in the Market for Verizon Automatic Wi-Fi On. It works well for what you describe. Using coarse-location cellular data, it will turn on at a certain address and then turn off within 5-10 minutes after you leave that address.

I tried it for about a week, and it mostly worked. However, I found that it was more of a battery drain than leaving Wi-Fi on all the time. The reason, I assume, is that the app was always on, looking for your locations.
