Help Smart Switch can't pair Huawei Mate 10

tuxcali

Lurker
Connection failed all the times if the Galaxy S10 and Mate 10 under the same WiFi network and bluetooth enabled. I am in a hurry to transfer my personal data from Mate 10 to S10.

Given that Smart Switch is primarily a Samsung utility, part of the problem might be due to it not supporting Mate 10 phones.

Huawei™: T8951, C8813, Ascend/G510/G520/D2, Stream 201HW, A199(china), Honor 6/6+/7, P7, P8, P8 Lite, Mate7, Maimang4, Ascend Y300, Mate8

I can confirm that Smart Switch definitely connects and works with a Mate 10 and a Galaxy S7 via WiFi. For the S10, have you got the latest version of Smart Switch? Is your Mate 10 running 8.0 Oreo or 9.0 Pie? Also the WiFi, is it a public one? Because some public WiFi may block direct data packets between devices, that Smart Switch requires

It's Android 8.0 Oreo on Mate 10. And yes, it is public wifi hotspot. I will try at home and see if there is any difference. thanks

Yes, public WiFi in restaurants, malls, hotels, airports, etc. does often block direct device to device data connections. It's basically a security measure to stop worm infected laptops sniffing and probing for other ones to try to infect, as well as hackers trying to pwn other users on the same network.

Years ago, did you ever see "Free Public WiFi" when looking for WiFi networks? Those were infected Windows computers, basically honeypot traps, spreading their malware.

It is public wifi hotspot, you'd better not try it,to avoid computer viruses, disconnect the wi-fi and bluetooth connections and turn them on again.
It is best if you try connecting the two phones to computer with USB cable,so that everything on Mate 10 can be transfered.
As it shows: https://www.tunesbro.com/transfer-data-from-huawei-to-samung.html

You can certainly use Smart Switch with WiFi, because I've done it before with a Mate 10 and Galaxy S7. But using my own private WiFi at home.

If I'm using any public WiFi, I'll always use a VPN with it for security and privacy.
