Smart Watches that will work *text and call* with verizon

Anyone know of any? I am assuming the ones that take a Sim card are not compatible with Verizon's service?

Android wear devices like smartwatches connect through the phone, they can't text or call independently. So they'll work with Verizon as long as the phone does.

(Not from personal experience...)

Well, Verizon sells the LG Watch Urbane LTE edition. You need to pair with a companion Android smartphone, but then you can send and receive text messages and make or receive calls just from the watch when you have Verizon LTE coverage.

See https://www.verizonwireless.com/connected-devices/lg-watch-urbane-2nd-edition-lte/

My other guess is that, yes, if you buy a SIM-enabled smart watch that *isn't* from Verizon or specifically mentions Verizon support, it will not work with Verizon.

I would recommend the Samsung Gear S2. It's really stylish and can be used to make calls, send texts, and get app alerts
when your phone is on and connected to the network.

The problem with trying to use a smartwatch as a standalone ( with sim card etc ) is the very limited battery life that these have. A smartwatch that works through the phone ( not using a sim ) has a battery that only lasts up to a day typically, trying to also support direct cellular talk/text would cut that down to hours.

Using an AndroidWear ( AW ) compatible smartwatch is probably the best way to get the most out of any such technology. Because AW is the defacto standard on Android, other apps have been developed to work with it directly allowing more functions on the smartwatch. Generic smartwatches typically don't use AW and because of that, only can work with the apps/functions they were designed for and nothing else.

Most of the Samsung watches are much like the generics, they use Samsungs proprietary OS called Tizen which again limits the apps that they can work with.
