Smartphone Won't Play Through Car Speakers

dmcaissie

Newbie
I have an Honor 5X running Marshmallow 6.0.1. My new car, a 2019 Toyota Yaris, didn't come with a CD player so I got the (?) bright idea to upload music from my desktop computer (Windows 10) to my Honor 5X and play music through my Yaris' speakers.

That's not happening. No matter what cable I use (AUX or USB) to connect my Honor 5X to my car, no music from my Honor 5X comes out of my car's speakers. I know it's not the cables as I've tried three AUX cables and two USB cables. I know it's not the music app because I've tried four, and I can play music using all those apps (I've heard it).

Any ideas/suggestions? Although I've had the phone for two years, I don't use it for much more than answering calls and keeping track of my mother's medical appointments, so please assume I'm a stupid user and kinda talk down to me with any suggestions you may have.

Thanks, Dannydet for your reply.

Sigh, guess I'm going to have to reveal how "stupid" a stupid user I really am. Don't I have to pay for Bluetooth via my cell phone provider? I'm not on a so-called unlimited plan for X-dollars per month because I can't afford the X-dollars per month that Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, Metro, etc. charges.

Second problem is that my Honor 5X refuses to pair with my Yaris. When I try to pair them, I get an "unknown error" error message on my Yaris' display board. That's been kind of frustrating.

Bluetooth isn't provided via your cell phone provider. So no you don't have to pay for it.

Bluetooth is a short range radio frequency that you can stream to other devices, for free, so both your car and phone can use it unlimited.
Just go to your cars radio, Bluetooth, and pair

Thanks to Dannydet and n0atall0wed for the Bluetooth information. The cheapskate in me likes to hear this. Guess I'll have to get on the line with Toyotacare and find out why my Honor 5X refuses to pair with my Yaris.
