SMS Contact list different than Phone Contact List

Hi,
I have found this forum to be extremely helpful, but on this particular issue, I'm stuck.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S running Froyo 2.2.
I have Yahoo mail, Facebook, and GMail accounts.
I synced them originally so that my internal contact lists in the Yahoo and Gmail apps were up to date. But they are now all unchecked for "SYNC is OFF"

In the Contacts / Display Options menu, I chose to show only those contacts with numbers, and also unchecked every box except for SIM phone contacts.

When I simply look through my contacts, everything is fine, it shows only my sim card contacts with numbers.
When I go to make a phone call and then look through my contacts, everything is fine.
BUT, when I got to my text messaging menu, my Yahoo and GMAIL contacts are added to this list. Why?

When I click on one of them, it says it's converting to an MMS which is how it must send a text to them without a phone number I guess.

Is there anyway to prevent these contacts from appearing in this situation? It seems like the settings don't apply when texting, which is very inconvienient.

Many people have had similar issues regarding them wanting to have their contacts show up, or having them removed from the normal contact list, but I haven't found this unique text message contact situation.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hmmm... the list is different on my phone too but in my case only those Contacts with mobile numbers show in my Go SMS list which makes sense when you think about it. For some reason yours might to be allowing texts to email addresses?

Not sure what is happening with yours but I would suggest you untick "SIM only" as unless you have all your contacts backed up onto your SIM card you will end up missing out on some of them e.g. contacts only stored in Gmail.

Also are you using the stock Contacts app? Might be worth downloading GO Contacts and see does that make a difference?

If all else fails might be worth emailing the GO SMS developer?

Yes, I use the stock SMS and stock Contacts "apps". I have heard good things about the handcent sms app and may give that a try, but I really haven't had any issues etc. with the stock apps except for this problem.

I do like to have my contacts on my sim card as I've lost phones in the past and having the contacts there allowed me to "cancel" them right away. I keep a backup printout at home.

This problem becomes most annoying when I have a contact saved with a phone number but also saved as a yahoo contact. Then when in the sms menu, a double entry shows up and I always seems to pick the email address entry and not the phone number entry. Someone suggested I "merge" contact information.

Any experience with this "merging"? Would it be a work-around solution to this problem? Or would things just get more confusing?? :)

Thanks for the reply.

I have all contacts merged, and well, I dont see them separately in the sms app. The phone counts them as one contact.
