The NIST which makes guidelines and rules for software authentication in the United States has announced that SMS-based two-factor authentication will be deprecated. Two-factor authentication is a security method which asks for a secondary code -- most times sent to your smartphone via SMS or email -- to ensure someone signing into an account is the rightful owner.
