Help SMS full error when receiving text messages - Help please!

Lurker
Hi!

I've been looking around and cannot find a solution. I keep getting an error message that my SIM card get's full of text messages and after that I can't receive any until I delete some (or all) from the SIM card. It seems like the messages are stored in both, the phone memory and the card, as after deleting them from the card, I can still see them in the Message app, and deleting them from the message app does not delete them from the SIM card, unless I explicitly go into the SIM card option (in the message app as well) and delete them there.

This is annoying, but I am also concerned that I might be loosing some messages when the phone is not receiving new ones. This happens after receiving about 30 messages or so.

Can someone help? How do I get the phone not to store messages into the SIM card automatically? Can I expand the number the card can store? (30 text messages don't seem like a lot...specially when the phone is configured to store 200 per thread with up to 20 MMS and that is not a problem... )

Thank you in advance!!!

BTW... I have a Galaxy s III with the following detailed info:
model number: SGH-I747
Android: 4.0.4
Baseband: I747UCLH9
Kernel: 3.0.8-985684

Carrier: AT&T - USA

PS: About me... I am a newbie here, and also with Android. An old and happy Palm user that had to transition after Palm's demise... Also tried Apple products and liked them.. but thought to be bold and try something completely new! Thanks for the help.. and patience...

Hey there fmzd, first of welcome to the forums.

Secondly, i have moved this thread into the Galaxy S3 forums so that you can get some specific device tech support.

Lastly, i hope you receive some help you are looking for :)

go to messages and settings under general settings is delete old messages ticked? Also text message limit is set to how much?

If I go to settings inside of the messaging app, the 'Delete old messages' option is ticked. It is under the 'Storage Settings' section.

The next section is 'Text messages (SMS) settings. There you find a 'Manage SIM card messages' option. If I click on it, I see all the messages that are currently in the SIM. Unfortunately the only options I get there are 'Copy to phone', or 'Delete'. BTW, not sure why 'manage SIM' would be under this option... it doesn't seem to make sense...

Probably too much info... But thx for responding!

under general settings there is an option of text messages limit what is that set to?

Under 'Settings' for the Messaging app, (I have not seen a 'text mssages limit' in the General Phone Settings) the Text message limit is set at 200 per conversation. And the Multimedia message limit at 20 messages per conversation.

Additionally, there is a setting for 'Delete old messages' when maximum number of messages reached, and it is selected.

I don't see a 'max txt messages' for SIM storage. Nor do I see a setting to tell the phone whether or not to send txt messages to SIM.

This started recently... I don't think I did anything that had to do with the messaging app whatsoever. But this started happening a couple weeks ago. (I have only had the phone for about 2 months).

Thank you!

I haven't downloaded anything 'that I am aware of' related to messaging recently.

Only thing I can think of is that I have Facebook and WhatsApp. But they have been in my phone for a good while. Facebook I probably use it once a week, and WhatsApp, I think I used it once.. had issues finding my friends, and let it there for when I had time to figure that out...

So.. not really something I can thing about.

ok you could try updating to JB and see if it helps otherwise try a factory reset. Facebook and whatsapp are not related to the issue.
