SMS not sending after Android Messages update (3.5.053)

Last week, after Android Messages updated to 3.5.053, I was unable to send text messages. I would get the 'Sending...' message for about 15 minutes, followed by 'Not sent. Tap to try again.'

I uninstalled the update to see if this would fix the problem. It did. I was able to send and receive from the prior version.

Today, the app updated again and I am having the same issue. I cannot send messages (I can receive, however).

I've made sure that I am connected to wifi and have signal, my sim card is inserted properly, Android Messages is my default messaging app, and I have unlimited messages.

Please advise on how I can be able to receive messages again on this updated version. Thank you.

I don't use this app, but as workarounds you could revert and then turn off automatic updates (so it won't update itself) and report it to Google, or use a different message app until they fix it.

What do you mean by "your actual SMS number"? SMS is SMS, whatever app you use (though some allow other things too, such as RCS "chat").

BTW I played with QwkSMS and it seems a nice app, quite snappy and I always like a bit of open source. But less flexible in its theming than textra, which is at least as fast, and didn't seem to have abilities that Textra didn't. So I'm curious as to why it would be better?

Whenever I used textra, it gave me some weird number and only worked with data instead of SMS.. It's also been a few years since my experience, Lol..

Try going into your Settings >> Apps menu, find the Messages app listing, open it, tap the 'Force stop' button, then tap on 'Storage' and tap on the 'Clear cache' button.
Now open the app itself again and see if that made any difference.
And if you haven't restarted your Pixel in a while, try that too. Just rebooting can fix a lot of odd, one-off problems.

This fixed my issue! Thanks as it had been plaguing me for a while.
