Help SMS sender's phone number

I'm getting a LOT of junk SMS's and am forwarding them to my phone company's junk service, but after forwarding the actual message they also need me to send the number of who sent it.

The problem is that unless I write the number down and enter it manually, or save it as a contact, there's no way that I can find of copying the number into a new SMS using the stock Android messaging app.

Does anyone know how to do this or if it is actually possible?

I've just spent over an hour and a half trying to figure it out and searching for an answer, without success.

Thanks.

If I long hold an SMS is my list I'm given an option to "Save as Task". Probably phone specific, but selecting this gives me a copy-pasteable phone number.

What if you add it as a contact, copy the phone number from the editable phone number field, then cancel out so the contact is not actually added? ETA: To copy, just select the editable phone number as you would any text, then tap and hold on the selection and a "copy" option should pop up

Actually yes, that does work but it's a bit more convoluted than it should be, but thanks, much appreciated! ;-)
