SMS vs MMS which is optimal

I understand the difference between SMS and MMS, but what I don't understand is why I cannot receive PNG file format in Messenger, but can do so in Hangouts. I also cannot send a PNG file format via Messenger (

32 kb. I don't consider it large. I think its just that the PNG may not be supported by the Messaging app. Just found this on the Motorola site:
To save a multimedia item received in a message, press and hold the item and select Copy to SD Card
Some file formats can be converted to HTML for faster viewing, and your phone will show a button that says Get HTML version.

You can try that but you said you can't receive any if it wont show the only thing is to open msg if its a PNG view in the hangouts or as a lot of us are doing is using hangouts as a default . its better

Saving it off and viewing in the Gallery app works fine, just an added step. You say "a lot of us are doing is using hangouts as a default". So your default texting app is Hangouts and you like it better than Messaging?

Yesss . a little secret someone can send you a text or MMS even if you was on 2g and also without service . you can view with WiFi only . hangouts has also been known to save carrier minutes you can make calls with WiFi using app and also a video call hmmmmm sounds nice
