Ive been trying the snesoid app on my galaxy and ive found that using the trackball option is the easiest way to play. But its really annoying that you keep running, on the galaxy we got a real d-pad so is there any way of making your character only run when you press left or right? and not KEEP running.

It's possible on supergnes (SuperGNES - SNES Android Emulator)

But it's still in beta testing(development) atm and you need to get invited to get access to it. I think there's a form somewhere on the website to get invited, as a reminder it's still in beta and does not represent the final version. However if you have time any help in testing and troubleshooting would probably be appreciated.
