So I have to delete all my data?

So i stupidly think that plugging a vodafone sim into my vodafone phone can't poss go wrong... right? wrong.

I plug my real sim back in, and it complains that I must put in my gmail account password again, the problem is that I never use this, I think it's daft to have a gmail account when I have hotmail.... so the password isn't on the tip of my tongue.

So I try and recover the account...... smeg knows... hour later on that recover page and I give up, some stupid loop hole I couldnt get out of.

So it always complains, and I can't go to the market to install anything new.

I eventually accept that I need a new gmail account, so I create one (and tatoo new password to head) ... but everything is synced against the gmail account... which I dont' have access to.

I decide to just leave the old account there but tell the phone to use the new account... but everything still complains, e.g. the market will only sign in using the primary account.

So I decide to back up the data.... you can't with out an app... an app !!!! I'm sorry but that should be basic functionality? like an on button?

And without sounding like a tight git I don't agree with buying one, stocks, sports fine, but not the ability to back up my own data !!

So I look into migrating data from one gmail account to the other... you can't without the gmail account.

So basically the only way out of this I see is to delete the primary gmail account... and that will delete all my calendar? contacts? messages?

Really quite pissed that it appears to be impossible to back up data... yes I lost a password (inbetween the other 50 I use on a daily basis) but I don't believe I have to resort to deleting all my data JUST so I can load the market and other services?

Sorry for negative attitude, spent hours on this so far and every idea just hits another ridicolous road block.

What does google have against a 'back up to sd card' option ??? that was basic phone functionality years ago. (I did this for contacts but can't find it for anthying else).

Many Thanks
Andy

Go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Gmail and clear all data. Do the same for the market and what ever other app you can find that syncs with the primary google account. Reboot the phone and it should prompt you to enter the new account.

Thanks for reply, but no it doesn't work, I've tried this several times (though admittedly I'd missed clearing the market before).

Now when I load the market I get the same old 'log into gmail account' however behind it (semi blurred out) it asks me to go through the wizard... but I can't get to it (tried pressing back, repeated failed logins etc), so the phone knows to go through the wizard but I'm equally stuck

Thanks
Andy
