So Tethering will be permitted now?

rsarno

Thank Me, Im Irish!
I read the sticky about VZW new unlimited stuff rolling out, it mentioned that "hot spot is available to eligible devices, but included in your data bucket" or something.

Does this mean i dont have to root for tether anymore?

I have a Transformer Prime tablet, how can i know if its an "eligible device"?

Thanks, sorry if this question is repeated.

That's only if you are under one of the NEW shared data accounts that go into effect June 28th. You can use any device that is capable as a WiFi hotspot, but the data will come out of your allotted Gb per month (see chart in sticky).

If you are on one of Verizon's current individual or family plans, you still have to pay the rate for mobile hotspot ($20/month).

You don't have to root now. FoxFi works great without root and is much more stable than android tether ever was.

If i dont have to pay any additional fee for tethering, the new plan may actually be not so bad for me.

I dont really use a lot of data, just websites and emails mostly.

My only concern is of the future ... everything is going cloud based, who knows what globs of data we will be consuming in the future.

It looks like based on this, my heaviest month is just over 1.5gb. Not even sure how i get that high, maybe i streamed some movies or something.

My wife uses nothing, doesnt even know her phone has a browser or apps lol

I guess id be safe with a 2gb plan?

BTW is there any way of determining what is using the data from my phone? Cant imagine where i ate up almost 2gigs

Thanks
