So what is the deal with Swype after all?

I use it on my DInc and absolutely love it. It seems that almost everyone who uses it has a similar experience. People are throwing hissy fits because it won't work properly on FroYo which speaks volumes to how much people love it. Why in the world is it not on the market? I would think it would make tons of money for the developer. If they discontinued functionality of the beta and put in on the market for $10-15 I would pay and not think twice as it's something I literally use every single day. Am I the only one who would fork over that kind of $$$ on Swype? Why are they not making money off it?

Unfortunately, it's because Swype decided they would make MORE money selling it to OEMs like Motorola than they would by selling it directly to the consumer through the market.

Won't work on Froyo? Sure it does. I've been using it on my Nexus One with Froyo. You just have to reinstall it is all.

There are copy's available on the interwebz that don't need to be reinstalled.
Copy's who don't expire.

I would keep the beta

I'll probably buy it if they ask $5 for it :)

Couldn't they have it both ways? You could sell it in the Market and to OEMs as well.

Doesn't work on the DInc under Froyo. You have to reinstall it and then you have to toggle the input method every time you power cycle your phone.

Well considering the fact that swype is still in beta... If OEM'S decide to package it is an entirely different matter. Swype has not released an official version yet.

I wish swype would just come out and be done with it, all this half ass release with beta, working... not working. Come on SWYPE... come out and stay out!

This isn't true. It works fine even after a power cycle on the Dinc.

I'm using Swype version 1.56.30.7625.t100 that was found on the XDA forums. It even has a mic button now!

+1
The wife had it before her froyo ota and after without even needing to reinstall, and reboot doesn't change anything.

Loving the new mic button

I'm using the same version (for Moto Droid) and I don't have a mic button :(

The expiration of the perfectly functioning beta is pants. What kind of business disables their only product and offers nothing to replace it? That's like Tesla Motors remotely killing all of their roadsters and telling their customers, "Nah, this electric car thing ain't working out. Sit on your ass and wait for us to get off ours."

?

The latest beta is what they offer to replace it with. Just came out a few days ago.

I find it kind of hard to use to be honest.. I'm always trying to find the letters and then swiping other letters in the meantime

I just installed this on my evo yesterday and am in love. Oh swype, please leave beta stage and come to the market so I can buy you.

If you can't touch-type to begin with, you aren't going to make much use of it. Then again, in this day and age if you still have to peck for letters on a standard keyboard, you should be ashamed.

I had it before and deleted it, couldn't get used to it. I decided to give it another try and I'm in love with it now!
