i notice the softkey backlights dont always go on. is there a setting for them? i thought they should go on whenever the display is on

I noticed that too. I don't think there is a setting but expect it to get fixed with an upcoming firmware release.

think i figured it out: the backlights turn on only in very low light. for example, if you are in a dark room. to test you can place your hand over the light sensor and the keys will turn on. doesnt always run perfectly though (like the auto screen brightness)
