Hey all! Back after a self-imposed timeout.
On December 26, as I was waiting for my coffee to be served, I got what I call the "black screen of death" from my Eve. No biggie, this had happened a few times before and doing a RAMdump restarted the phone and everything returned to normal. Not this time. I kept getting the BSoD with a kernel dump at line 1; I'd see the Rogers logo, but never reached the Android logo. Removed the battery, put it back in, NADA. Tried connecting it to the LG software updater, still nothing. I caved and contacted Rogers technical support, at which point I was asked to connect to the LG update program; when I told them that it didn't detect my phone, I was told I had to bring the phone in for repair.
On the 27th I was in a Rogers store and they took in my phone for repair. After 2 and a half weeks, I went back to the store last week to find out what was happening, since I hadn't yet been called to tell me what the ETA would be on the repair. My phone finally was returned yesterday (3 weeks to the day after dropping it off). The summary sheet describing the repair work done simply reads "Swap board (main RF) impossible to repair".
When I started it up, it seemed to be working well, but the icons seemed a little different. When I looked at the phone info, I saw that it's now running 1.6 with the 2.6.29 kernel and the 10q software. Sadly, I lost all the apps I had previously installed (lesson learned about backups!).
A quick SIM card swap with the wife shows that the phone is newly locked, so I have to unlock it again.
I saw that there are links for rooting 1.6, is the procedure different from the wonderfully documented rooting of 1.5? Also, what's the status of running the Eve with 2.1 or 2.2?
Thanks!
