Help Some apps missing from Focus Mode settings

Lurker
I'm trying to setup my phone for Focus mode and I'd like to be able to pause my most distracting app: Microsoft Outlook. But, when I got to the Focus Mode settings that app isn't in the list of choices, even the alphabetical dropdown of "All Apps".

Any ideas on why Outlook would be missing from Focus Mode?

That's interesting. I just installed Outlook on my Pixel 3 and it does appear in the list of Focus Mode-eligible apps.

Is yours connected to a personal or work email account? I wonder if an organization policy could prevent it from being "Focused".

Interesting. It is connect to Work account and it does require the Admin privileges to restrict unlocked time and the type of password entries allowed (HIPAA compliance stuff). I wonder if that is what excludes it from the Focus list.

That's my guess. I don't see my other Device Admin apps in the Focus Mode list - which makes sense. You can't disable/uninstall a Device Admin app without first disabling its admin privileges, and (if I understand correctly) Focus Mode effectively temporarily disables apps.

I'd say that is a fair assumption. I'll have to check my wife's, she is a counselor, so constricted by HIPPA as well.

Yeah, that's probably it. Too bad, I guess I'll just have to use the Do Not Disturb.

I figured out a way to make this work. What I did was uninstall Outlook, restart phone, reinstall Outlook, setup focus mode apps (without logging in to Outlook. This is so there are no permissions set yet.), once done with the setup you can now login to your outlook account.

Update: this worked on my Galaxy S20 since Outlook can be seen but cannot be disabled at first. But on my other device the app is still missing.

Interesting. I too have Outlook working as expected on my s20, but never messed with it much on the pixel

There's an easier way to achieve this within the Outlook app itself.

- Open Outlook app
- Slide open the left menu
- Click on the bell icon next to the account name on top
- Set DND hours (night times + weekends, etc)

Voila!
