some ?s becore I buy a g2

My ideal smartphone is essentially a "google play' version of the G2. I really like the software and smoothness on the nexus 5 but i need the g2 camera & battery. Here are my questions:

1. when android 4.4 trickles down to U.S. G2 users next year, how intact do you expect the features of stock 4.4 to be? I'm especially interested in the voice commands and the google now page next to the home screen.

2. In the meantime it seems like there are already a few groups working on 4.4 roms for the g2. I've never rooted but want to. How stable and smooth-running do roms like this usually get?

thanks guys (and gals!)

I don't imagine 4.4 is going to look anything like the Nexus 5 when it eventually comes to the G2. If you're looking for the voice commands, you can install the Google Experience launcher with the updated voice search app.

In regards to development, I can only speak to the Verizon version and it's quite strong. I'm running Gummy's 4.4 ROM and it's great. Even smoother, faster, and has a few extra bells and whistles.

I suppose it was too much to hope that the lg skin wouldn't muck things up. It's not like the current version is bad anyway but perhaps a rom is the right solution for me. I'll go spend some time on xda-developers and try to figure out what my options are.

Thanks for the help!

XDA is humming quite along in the development forums, so you will find plenty of info there.
The LG skin isn't all that bad, and many folks are running it rooted stock (to rid it of all the bloat).

I tried running over to a beta 4.4 ROM a week ago, and to my surprise, didn't even make it an hour before I restored back to my CleanROM stock-minus-bloat ROM instead. I know the ROM I tried had other issues too, certain features not working yet, etc. However, for me, the glaring thing, was that all of a sudden, it felt like I had my Galaxy Nexus in my hand again. It was almost weird, going back from the LG skin.

That said, I'm certainly waiting for better 4.4 ROMs or even an official drop, to see what it looks like again. I do miss some of the customization I had with Sourcery, but I also know that was VERY feature heavy, so a lot of other ROMs won't have quite as much to play around with.

I expect as more and more time is spent with the 4.4 source, the betas and releases will get more and more stable as it is.
