Someone help me with Handcent?

I installed Handcent back in November, when I bought my Droid. I have really liked this messaging app, and plan to keep it. I just have one concern.

When I open Handcent, and am scrolling through my conversations.....its really choppy and laggy. What is the best way to rid of this? Its annoying to have to delete all the conversations. I can't seem to find a way to limit the number of displayed messages...is that an option?

Just curious as to what you folks have done to overcome this.

TIA.

Set the limit fro the built-in messaging app.

All I see in settings for that is the amount of messages per conversation.....is that the only thing I need to change the limit on to make things less choppy? I was thinking maybe if there was a way to limit the amount of conversations (contacts) in your inbox....

It clearly states: Delete Old Messages at the very top of SMS settings. Yu can set the limit after which the oldest ones will be deleted.

Now that I sit here and play with the phone (I actually have the time), I am wondering if my linking my contacts with their Facebook page has something to do with it....I wonder if its pulling the profile picture up for each contact, each time you access Handcent. Would it not just cache the thumbnail pic?

I'm not too familiar with the operations of these things. If the profile picture is what is slowing down the app, I will by all means cut that feature off.....

Yup, I deleted the old messages and reduced the limit for future deletion.....which I clearly put in my previous post.

I am still having problems with choppiness. I have the "sync" cut off for everything related to Handcent or any SMS apps, but what I think I need is a way to clear the cache.....if there is one, to wipe out all of the profile pics for each contact. Anyone familiar with how to do this?
