Help Something doesn't feel right with battery life.

Yesterday my phone rebooted itself while I was on a run. (GPS and music). From my battery chart it looks like it lost ~8% during the reboot, gray vertical line. Also the phone was unable to fully charge overnight last night. However daydream may have kept the screen on, not sure. Also I plugged in for a quick charge this afternoon and it looks like I still lost battery life, with out heavy use. Is this something I should be concerned about or am I just being too hyper aware of battery life?

While I was jogging, Run Keeper app was running and I was listening to slacker radio, the phone turned off, music stopped, then moto splash screen popped up. Needless to say I lost my run keeper data...

What is the most strange is the gray vertical bar in my battery chart that correlates to the event.
 
I'm if you accidently hit some buttons and were not aware that you had done it. Like ... hold down volume down and poser for 6-7 seconds. It will take a screenshot and then reboot. Do you have any strange screenshots recorded?

No strange screenshots, but accidental button press is possible. I was not aware of the 6-7 sec vol down reboot.

Does that explain the gray vertical bar in battery chart?

I am anxious to see if I notice any difference overnight tonight when charging.
 
When you were plugged in last night and this afternoon, how were you plugged in? Official charger and cable? Plugged into a computer USB port? Something else?

If it was just plugged into a computer, that wou explain the drain. It's possible/likely that a computer USB port isn't powerful enough to charge the Maxx, especially if the display is lit.

As for the 8% anomaly, since there was a spontaneous reboot, I'd not be too concerned. It could be that whatever caused the phone to restart was preventing the phone from properly collecting battery statistics for some time so the calculations were off. I'd worry about it if you start seeing it again.

I haven't used Runkeeper on my Maxx yet. I tend to use the app only if I'm having problems with my gps watch, or if I forget to charge the watch, etc. I've generally found on both of my older phones that Runkeeper is less accurate than I want it to be. I generally ony need to measure how far I've run for routes I've never run before. But, that's me; I understand that others love the social and automatic data collection of Runkeeper. If you keep having problems with it I suppose it might be time to look at other solutions, like endomondo.

Or, perhaps the issue was slacker, and a different music service may be better.

As for the charger in question: last night I used a dedicated AC charger and this afternoon I used a USB cable to AC adapter.

As for the gray vertical bar in the battery chart: I believe whenever the phone is rebooted it re-evaluates it's battery status so the chart is probably +/- 10% at all times.

I still feel like the phone is charging slower and discharging faster than previous. Does anyone know how long it should take the DMaxx to charge from 0% to 100% using stock USB cable and AC adapter?

I use an app called Battery Monitor Widget Pro and it gives an estimate for that, based on my usage history (which goes back to August 20).

On my phone, according to the app's stats, it's estimated to charge from 0 to full in 5h16m. BUT - I never use Daydream, so my display is not lit.

I should have also added that I am using my old Droid 3 charger on the Maxx most of the time, because I haven't had the time to unplug it from my charging station (and because I like to travel with the dual charging plug that came with the phone.) It's possible that it's supplying a lower amp level than the Maxx can handle.

For that reason, it's possible that recharge times are faster than that using the stock charger...
 
Your time seemed a little high to me. I only let my Maxx go to 0%once and I did not measure how long it took to charge back to 100%. Interesting question. I am letting it go down to 0% now. It is 17 hours and 74% ... it will be a while.

Phone fully charged overnight last night. Looking at my battery chart thus morning I would estimate ~6hrs for full charge, however I'm using an old dedicated AC charger that's 700mA output. Much lower than the 1.1A OEM charger.

In the long run, do you think charging with a lower output charger is better for battery health?

As for my original posting question; I am going to chalk this up to hyper battery awareness and oversensitivity on my part. At least till I see more weirdness again...

As long as the voltage is the same, what difference does it make? The amperage will affect how fast it will charge and how warm the charger will get.
 
OK ... I ran the test finally ...

100% to 0% - 3 days 3 hours 10 minutes

0% to 100% - 3 hours 15 minutes using OEM charger that came with the Droid Maxx.

Some phenomenal statistics in both directions.

I was wondering more about your usage. Screen time, moderate to heavy? That kind of thing.

No matter what, that's pretty amazing.
 
Very light usage. Screen off most of the time. GPS not in use. WiFi almost 100% of the time. No data streaming watching movies. No mobile hot spot used.

It is not representative of use and is not particularly typical. I just had to run it down to 0% so I could time how long it took to charge it back to 100%.

The last time it lasted about d days and 20 hours with more active use.

I streamed Sirius all day and used the phone web surfing, texts, apps, emails...no video......15.5 hrs, I'm at 26% left....... Used all day, but I'm finding I need to charge the phone each night.....this is 3rd day.
