Help Something has to give with this battery life..

My wife and I upgraded to RAZR's in May from X's. We also just did the update to ICS a few weeks ago. I'm pretty sure it isn't much different than it was before ICS..if it is, it's worse.

The battery life on our phones is freaking terrible. I have never been so irritated with something in my life. When I unplug my phone at about 4 am, it has 100% battery from charging all night. It is now 9:37am and I am at 31%..If I do not plug it up and charge it by lunch, it will be dead by 1pm. If I do get the chance to charge it, it will be dead before I go to bed tonight at around 10pm. I can leave work with a full charge (100%) and by 7 or 8pm, it's dead.

I don't do much on my phone really. Maybe send 10-15 texts a day. Check facebook every hour or so, make a call or two. I can see a long call draining battery, but most of the time it is just short phone calls.

The only thing I've done in the past that really helped at all was adding the 4G toggle. Since upgrading to ICS, the feature has seemed to disappear? I can't figure out how to set it back to 3G like I used to. Even that only marginally helped.

I keep GPS, bluetooth and wifi off. Screen is set to full bright most of the time, but only because I don't like it dimmed. I will dim it if in a very dark area or if the battery starts getting weak.

Are there any suggestions on what I can do to help this situation? I'm getting really sick of constantly having to have it plugged in. $100 extra for the maxx would have been soooooooooo worth it.

Thanks

Go into Settings | Battery and see what is consuming it. Normally Screen On is the top item, but I am curious what the next couple are. If possible, post a screenshot as a picture is worth a thousand words.

That doesn't seem to be working, but this is what I have:

Screen 73%
Voice calls 8%
Android OS 6%
Browser 5%
battmonX 3%
Phone idle 3%
Cell standby 2%
Mediaserver 2%

Have you done a Factory Data Reset at any point, most particularly since upgrading to ICS? If not, I'd suggest that. If you're worried about losing data and have root, you could use Titanium Backup first.

What is your total battery percentage and how many hours currently on the charge?

60% - discharging

6h 58m 3s on battery as of now, but I plugged it up at about 9:30 and unplugged it at 11. When I plugged it up it had 26%.

How much time has the screen on used? On the battery stats page you should be able to click Screen On and it should tell you in HH:MM:SS how long you are using screen. You should also probably lower brightness as you mentioned you use full. I have always had significantly better battery life with it set to auto adjust.

I would definitely set brightness to auto instead of the brightest setting. But also what's your shut off time on the screen? I wouldn't have it set longer than 30 seconds personally. If Wi-Fi is available where you are then use it. That should help. And use smart actions like battery extender. Should get you some better battery life.

No complaints from me on the battery, I'm a heavy user, will usually get 20-25 hours on one charge and screen time of 5-7 hours (throw in a few phone calls and several texts) . Try that on any other phone!

Is that the RAZR maxx or the minn?

my RAZR "thin" gets crap for battery life post-update. screen % is in the 5x-6x% on the regular, when it was 2x% on GB. I have it set for around 35% brightness, 30 seconds to sleep. other apps are in the 1x% or lower, and that's if I use it for a long time.

Supposedly there is another update to ics coming this month. I hope so. My maxx was amazing pre ics and post update its awful. And I've done the factory reset which is always a pain, cleared the cache, etc. Still horrid.

Hard reset does nothing if you do not investigate what apps eat up battery. System Panel will help you determine that as well as GSam battery app.

It is not the phone itself, but a setting or an app that is causing that. Everyone would be cmplaining if it was the whole ICS upgrade that was screwed up.

I'm not sure what my screen timeout is set on, but it is either 30 seconds or a min. I always press the sleep button to turn it off after I'm done with it, just to conserve battery, lol.

It appears auto mode on brightness helped a little. It is still bad though.

Today, it has been unplugged since about 4am as usual. It is 12:20pm now.

This is what I have:

8h 20m on battery 30% - discharging

Screen 66%
No Voice Calls today
Android OS 19%
Browser 2%
battmonX 5%
Phone idle 5%
Cell standby 3%

What is your screen on time for today, it still seems like that is disproportionate to the other percentages.

Just noticed you Android OS was up at 19% whereas it seems like it was in single digits yesterday. Were you playing a game or updating apps or something? Your screen is still high though for a little over an hour of use.

I have not played any games or anything today. checked browser for a local news story, sent some texts, and checked facebook a time or two. also took a pic.

I'm on 215, and my battery life is awesome. I just side loaded it.. perhaps you might check it out.
