Sometimes.. a new phone is better than any pc.

I just got my new htc evo 3D. Our generation is the generation that grew up with computers as a daily life necessity.. for the most part haha..

And personally I don't care much for actual computers these days, for me its about phones. I just got my new one like I said and now the old one will sit idly by, maybe used as a network card for my pc if I can't find the drivers :p and I'm happy about it :)

Anyone else ever felt more happy about their phone than any pc will bring? Lol
 
Well, PCs pretty much stopped developing a decade ago. Other'n speed, a PC you buy today is fundementally the same as one you bought 10 years ago. There are no new features.

As for speed, they've been fast enough for anyone other than gamers for the last decade. I'm in IT and back in the 90s I was upgrading my laptop every 10 months to get the latest features and the power I needed. I had my last laptop for 7 years and only replaced it when the hardware started to die.

I actually think phones are rapidly approaching the same point on the curve - yes, screen size, memory and speed have increased, but there's not really been anything truly novel for a while. I think the last really big change was adding GPS.

Tablets may have some potential as they're essentially just over-sized phones for now.
 
I've been working in IT for about 5 years (got my computer programming degree that's doing me nothing) and have been programming for the past decade.. I'm one of those linus type guys that's been programming their whole life essentially.. I've noticed this trend as well, but consumers seem to like it that way. They like innovation but they dont like what they don't know.. so if something like google glass really does come out. it'll be a great invention and people will like it but nobody will get it out of fear of not knowing out of how to work it..
 
I like my phone, but its not going to replace my computee or laptop any time soon. Mouse and keyboard is my best friend still. Internet bandwidth is unlimited, more space etc. Not to mention that my computer is the only source of tv I have.

Essentially its like compairing Motocycle with any car, yes its fun, but not a replacement.
 
There still has been quite a bit of advancement in computers though Moore's law is slowing down and coming to its end.

These advancements that occur in the pc get passed on to the phone, and visa versa. Some computer advancement you may not know about is Molecular computers, they are completely different from computers that we have today and are the most likely candidates for the next generation of pc
Another advance would be atomic computing, physicists successfully computed 4+3=7 on an atomic computer using only 5 atoms. It then became unstable and crashed. I think that is pretty amazing

Today our smartphones are essentially a miniaturized computer that fits in your pocket. It has the same type of parts that computers use to run: Ram, Processor, GPU, etc.. And it is even built off a pc OS.. My dad works with a man in his 60s who has never owned a computer in his lifetime, but turns out he owns an android that he uses religiously, and my dad called him out on it actually being a computer! lol being he is in his 60s as well
I would have done the same!

I believe the future of computers will be in our phones, you see some phones coming out now trying out the concept of docking to be used as a computer. I see it as we will all have a powerful smartphone that we just put on a dock that sends a signal to a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers all wirelessly.
 
Phones still have to do something about tracking, securing sensitive info better.
I don't think "unsecured wifi" means anything to a lot of people. All they see is a connection. Warning them will do no good.
By tracking - it's stuff like location services (isn't there one that shows others on your carrier close by?). Good way for burglar to find out you are not home.

I think MS will be opening themselves to one big attack once everything is integrated.

If there's easy money to be made, someone will do it eventually. It will probably be some form of social engineering since there's no legislation or cure for being an idiot.

Then all of us pay for it.
 
I use my phone for more Facebook, Twitter, Email, Banking, Instagram, and most other common purposes more than my desktop, since I'm not always home. Sometimes I just need to sit at the computer for more content creating, such as photo editing, doing anything that needs a bigger screen, and just printing, though my phone can work with a printer I believe.

At some point, I think physical memory will be phased out, starting with SD cards. Then next, hard drive, and it's all gonna be cloud and PC backup. I think if you want physical memory, devices will cost more because less will be made. Everything will be connected via 4G and WiFi, with cloud so data prices and cloud will all be huge.

Same thing with DVR's. I think there won't be a hard drive, but you'll use the server for your ISP (or cable company).

At some point, our smartphones will connect through wifi to our monitors, so we can hook up a wireless mouse, keyboard, printer, etc, but our phone will be the main computer.
