Being a big fan of Doctor Who, I've always wanted a Sonic Screwdriver.
And yes, I own a Sonic and Laser Screwdriver toys, but you tend to get funny looks if you actually carry them around and go whipping them out. Furthermore, they tend to pointlessly take up space in my pockets.
After having seen the Schwartz Unsheathed and iWeapons apps, it occurs to me that a Sonic Screwdriver app would be fairly simple.
It should include at least these features:
Alternately, it might also include these features:
Pictures of the aforementioned props can be found at the bottom of this page at the Project Rho web site.
I'm not a developer or I'd write it myself for fun. I would assume that this would be a free app -- though I admit that if it had all those features, I might shell out a buck for it. It may infringe on the BBC's copyright to sell it, however. I assume that making it free is how all the light sabre apps get away with it in the Market.
If anyone's interested and want some design assistance, feel free to contact me. I can't write the app, but I can supply appropriate pics and sound effects -- I've been collecting them for years. I don't have sound effects yet for the Multitool and Universal tool, but I can capture them in short order.

It should include at least these features:
- A configuration section to choose the model of Sonic Screwdriver (there have been seven models to date, with an eighth to make its debut in a month or so).
- A picture of the chosen model in the middle of the screen.
- Long-pressing and holding the picture plays the Sonic Screwdriver sound effect.
- If the model is extendable, wiping up or down will extend or retract it.
Alternately, it might also include these features:
- The Master's Laser Screwdriver (and sound effects).
- Gary Seven's Servo from the Star Trek episode "Assignment: Earth".
- REM's multitool from the TV series Logan's Run.
- Varian's Universal Tool from the TV series The Fantastic Journey.
- Scotty's Magnetic Wrench from the Star Trek episode "That Which Survives".
- Psychic paper (also from Doctor Who).
- Any other interesting SF tool that seems appropriate. Perhaps a Commlock from Space: 1999 or Communicator from Forbidden Planet ... ?
- The ability to save any of the sound effects as ringtones.
- The ability of the user to add devices by dropping appropriate images and sound effects into a directory on the SD card.
