Sony Ericsson has announced the roll-out of a new firmware update for the Xperia X8 and X10 series

heard about this awhile ago, can't help feeling, its a "sorry for no more os updates, take this"

bin4ry from xda developers beat em to it tho

what i dont get is ... their offiial update page says pinch to zoom will only work on maps and browsing
why not everything else like pictures and 3rd party apps?

is the stock 2.1 rom still sluggish and buggy? I've had multi-touch for a while now, working flawlessly!

well its live on nordic generic but not on uk generic, god knows how long it will take for the networks to port the bloatware across to it.. will be a while before we all get it imo

Wow.. this update came to my phone 3 weeks ago..

I am in Australia..
Running 2.1 SE ROM.
Phone was Ebay purchase, from HK, running worldwide generic.
(Purchased May 2010)

and..
Pinch to zoom DOES work in gallery..

NOW, this is my (tested just now) theory ONLY..
On X10, we were given only Mediascape to view Music, Vids, Photos..
Viewing photos thru M/Scape, pinch to zoom DOES NOT work.. movement of a finger scrolls to next image..
I have installed the GALLERY .apk to my X10, for access to vids and pics thru the native, standard android gallery app (ie, does NOT go thru M/Scape), and when viewing images thru GALLERY, pinch to zoom DOES work.

(I do not recall where i read of/found/downloaded "x10i_GALLERY.apk", however it was here, or xda, or XperiaX10Forum..)

Just an aside for the non rooted folks, you can access the Gallery if you are using a launcher like ADW or Launcher Pro. You just long press on Home Screen and select Shortcut>Activities>(wait for list to populate) Gallery and com.cooliris.media.Gallery.

Just upgraded to 0.435 via SEUS, and then re rooted with SuperOneclick 1.55. So far so good, but I keep forgetting I now have pinch and zoom. Lol

I have Global Generic X10aand was on 0.24.

When the update is available for me, will I have to go through setting the phone up again and re-installing all my apps, or, because this is just a minor update, will everything still be there after I've installed it?

Thanks.

Everything was still there for me except for the root.
