Just a few quick questions about the sony smartwatch.
1. If you have it do you enjoy it and does it actually come in handy?
2. Does it work with any android smartphone or is it a sony exclusive?
3.Is it hackable? =D
4.Cheapest place to buy it?

I've seen a couple of reviews of it, apparently it will work with most Android phones, but complete functionality is with Sony phones. Although if it's not communicating with a phone, it doesn't do anything. Wont even show the time of day without a phone.

I think it's really only a novelty. Probably for the gadget junky who must have everything.

OK... first the disclaimer... I'm a gadget geek. That being said...

I purchased the Sony Smartwatch at the same time I got my Galaxy S3. Is it a silly novelty? No.

I've been very pleased with my purchase. While it's not a perfect device, it brings some great additional capabilities for Android smartphone users.

It's important to remember a couple of things:

1) The Sony Smartwatch does not run Android. It receives data from an Android phone over bluetooth.

2) The watch is getting better all the time as more software is being written for it. Sony has made it pretty easy for developers to support it.

3) The watch is not a phone replacement.

Here's why I like it:

There are many situations where pulling out your phone is either inconvenient or socially unacceptable. I can be sitting in a meeting and see a Gmail message that just arrived by a quick (unobtrusive) tap on my wrist. I get a little vibration and see the icon on the screen. Tapping it shows the contents of the mail. Perfect. Quick, silent, move on with life.

At home, my phone can be on the charger in my bedroom after I get home, but the bluetooth is good enough to let me get notifications on my watch while I'm lounging on the sofa in the living room.

It's just a couple of taps to get to weather, music player control, recent Facebook posts, Twitter tweets, and a lot more. It even interfaces with Endomondo to help you track your workouts (with duration, GPS mapping, music, etc.)

Can you live without the Smartwatch? Of course. Is it useful? Definitely.

Wow...

I think that's the fastest I've ever fallen in and out of love.

Sony FAIL

Now, will somebody build me a watch that automatically uses CDMA signals to set the time and date, like my old Timex Beepware Pro pager watch used FLEX?

Yeh I know, it's like the basic primary function of a watch, to show the time of day.

You can certainly get radio synchronised watches, like Casio Wave Ceptor. They get exact time and date from short wave time broadcasts, e.g. DCF77, MSF and WWV.

BTW if any geek wants a real Android watch, there's plenty available on Alibaba.com and Made-in-China.com.

I've got those. Not only are they poorly made, but they can't receive wavelengths in the tens of meters unless you're really close to Ft. Collins or the other transit sites. Might as well have LORAN in my cellphone.

As it stands, CDMA is the best and only practical time setting method that could be fit into a wristwatch.

I believe I also saw the introduction of one during google IO, called Pebble. I watched a short clip about it and the one they show there isn't what it seemed like they were showing at IO. When I was watching the guy talking about the watch I could have sworn he said it came with an Android OS installed on it and you can connect your phone to access misc apps.
But all I found with searching is their Pebble watch to connect via bluetooth with nothing on it built-in but that one works with the iPhone as well as Android. Unless the one they were showing off was not in production but a future product in their line.

Please help me. i got the smartwatch today after getting my s3 last week. i just cant get them too work together.

everytime i connect the watch wants an update from my phone. it goes so far then stops, wont reconnect and goes to pairing mode.

Seriously? Wow, it can't tell time unless tethered to another device. At least my backyard sundial works. Except at night.

I love my mechanical watches. They will work even after the robot invasion arrives and all power is gone.

now if they can make it more compatible with android it would be cool and if no time that is ok. but like the #4 post said that would be pretty alright!!!
